When you think of New Age Meditation do images of laidback, peace-loving hippies from the sixties come to mind? What about Buddhists, crystals and chanting? Well not to worry, New Age Meditation is easy enough to incorporate into even the busiest lifestyle.

Originally, the practice of meditation was popular among practioners of Eastern religions. Then East met West and the popularity of meditation spread with a whole new spin on it. There are so many types of New Age Meditation techniques that there is bound to be one that will fit your style. There is Transcendental, Binaral, Sound, and Reiki, to name a few. You may want to go online or visit a spiritual shop in your area and select a guided meditation CD to get you started.

The first thing you should do to prepare for your meditation is to find a comfortable place to sit. Some people like to sit cross-legged on the floor, while others like a comfortable chair. Make sure that you are wearing loose fitting clothing that won’t distract you. Sit with your hands in your lap, palms facing upward.

Relax. Close your eyes and take a deep breath. Inhale as deeply as you can and hold it for a second or two. Exhale slowly. Pay attention to the CD you have selected as the moderator’s voice will take you through different thoughts. Empty your mind of the day’s events and focus on your breathing and the directions from your guide.

At the end of your session, you will be surprised at how relaxed you are. The stress of the day has melted away and you have a new outlook on things. Your body has had a chance to recharge and you have a fresh mindset, a calmer demeanor. Many people like to engage in New Age Meditation to broaden their minds and expand their creativity. Others use it purely for relaxation purposes. With stress being the leading cause of most illnesses, taking 20 minutes a day to meditate just could keep the doctor away.
