If you have never meditated and have decided to give it a try for stress relief or peace of mind, there are a few rules need to know.
• Do it every day at the same time
• Find a quiet place where you can be comfortable and not disturbed for fifteen minutes
• Begin with your breathing; breathing in through the nose and out through the mouth for seven repetitions. Make each breath a little deeper than the one before.
• Stretch your body to relax
• Meditation is a process of going within. You have to concentrate on your thoughts.
• As you begin your meditation find your “special place” to use in your meditations. It can be a place you remember fondly or some place you have always wanted to go. It can even be a cloud.
• Close your eyes and picture yourself in your special place. Allow yourself to rise above your physical body and to enter this special place. As you feel yourself leaving your body, relax. Let your mind move away from the rest of your body as you relax. You can feel the relaxation as it flows through your body from the top of your head to the soles of your feet and out the ends of your toes. You will find yourself completely relaxed as you repeat the process five to seven times.
• Remove yourself from the everyday worries and traumas and focus on yourself and your well being.
As a beginner to meditation you will want to purchase one or two books to read on the process so that you will be able to see exactly what you can hope to accomplish. If you have access to tapes or CD’s made for meditation, purchase one that you can use to aid your meditation. Some people like to use a scented candle to aid in meditation.
Meditation is meant to give you a feeling of peace inside. It also gives you a feeling of relaxation and can be used in the middle of the day as rejuvenation. If you get upset or angry, meditation can help you get over it. Make certain you sit up straight with your back aligned with your spine. It is better not to meditate when you are sleepy. Meditation, when done right, promotes mental clarity.
People who meditate sleep better, are in better health, are calmer and have less stress in their lives, and are able to focus better. Some people just can’t seem to sit still long enough to meditate so they adapt. They go for a walk or swim while their mind is going through the meditative motions.
In order to do this and have it become a full meditation, you need to coordinate your breathing so that you inhale and exhale in step with your walking or your swimming. While you are meditating you will find yourself reconnecting with your inner self and receiving divine guidance.
